Montreal: Rockaberry

07.22.12

The next few posts will be of our (Scartans…the dragonboat team where I’m co-captain) mini-food adventures around Montreal while we were there for a regatta. One of the girls, Jess found this place!!

After some well-earned hardware on day 2, we were all looking forward to our team dinner that night at Au Pied de Cochon. But seeing as our reservations were for 10:30PM, we hit up Rockaberry for some cushioning first. haha Spiral staircase leading up to our apartment!

We went to the St-Denis location, where almost all the different pies they make were available!

After taking a peek at other patrons’ slices, we quickly decided that share we must or else we’d have no appetite for FOIE at night!

The prices seem alright…a little pricey so we were expecting some amazing slices of pie.

A painting of the exterior. Not a particularly well-composed photo but it serves its purpose in showing the painting and the price of the pie slice…aka good news for me and my goldfish memory! ;D

Somehow their logo reminded me of the Magic School Bus opening song, “baked into a pie!”

Strawberry Shortcake. The sponge cake was exactly that; so light and bouncy! Not too sweet so the strawberries really stood out and the cream was perfect.

Oreo Cheesecake. A little one dimensional in both texture and taste. If served cold, it’d be great.

Apple Pie w/ Vanilla Ice Cream. You can never go wrong with something as classic as this! Now do you get what I mean when I say that the portions are very generous?!

Veryberry Crumb. Tastes as good as you’d expect; a big punch in the mouth with the fresh berries. Not too sweet nor too tangy.

Banana Split au Chocolat. I want to say that this was almost everyone’s favourite? It was SO YUMMY! Not too heavy at all considering the ingredients at play; chocolate + banana. There’s a perfect balance of everything here.

The plan was to grab, go, and eat back at our apartment. Obviously we’re eager beavers and could barely even wait to leave the restaurant before eyeing the contents of our containers…and devouring it all.

Sharing. Because that’s what family does! haha I love my team!

Verdict: The girls are planning a weekend trip to Montreal soon. And with so many great places in Montreal, this place is up there for a revisit. Definitely worth every penny!
